the winnow is open for digital chapbook submissions on 02/01 to 3/31.
We will review 10-50 page manuscripts of poetry, prose, or a combination of the two.
Direct your submissions to thewinnowmag@gmail.com.
If accepted for publication, the winnow asks for the First North American serial rights to publish the creator's work and then archive it; however, all rights revert back to the original writer upon publication. If any pieces from your chapbook are placed elsewhere in the future, please credit the winnow as their initial publisher.

Submissions are OPEN!

Brief Statement:
We strongly believe that everyone has something important to say. From the marginalized, to the disillusioned, to the unpublished, we want to hear your voice. We accept a broad range of themes, but we are particularly interested in works grounded by personal experience. We wish to go somewhere unexpected, somewhere wanting, somewhere unheard.

Submission Guidelines:
EMAIL: Please send us a brief cover letter: a simple greeting, a short third-person biography, a 1-3 sentence summary of your chapbook, and (optionally) some cool facts about yourself. Please include any trigger or content warnings for your submission.

BODY OF WORK: Please only submit 10-50 pages of poetry, prose, or a combination of the two. We prefer works strong in imagery and in a particular theme. Also, please include the following: a dedication/epigraph, title page, table of contents, acknowledgements, and bio. These particular items do not count against the page count. Please attribute the first appearances of any work in your manuscript in an acknowledgements page.  Additionally, we ask that no more than 60% of the content has been published before. Submit your chapbook all in one document (.doc, .docx, or Google Docs). If your work has special formatting, you can submit a PDF in addition only. Also, utilize Times New Roman or a sans serif font, such as Arial, size 12. If you're submitting poetry, please only include one poem per page.

Response Time:
We will inform you about your chapbook submission within 4 months. If you have not heard from us by then, feel free to inquire. Additionally, while we review simultaneous submissions, you must let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere.

Royalties:
Our division of profit is 50/50. Exactly 50% of the profits will go to us, the publisher/the winnow. If you would like to inquire about where exactly the profits will go, please email us for a 'receipt of transparency'. Then, exactly 50% of the profits will go to you, the author, through any type of safe and trusted money-receiving platform, such as Venmo or Paypal.
